It’s about damn time POST/POP did a hip-hop tape, but we waited until we had something real good and original. MEGA RAN is both of those things and more. Mixing old skool hip-hop with every genre you can think of, there is really something for everyone on RNDM. We have chiptune in there, we have some new wave stuff, we have some hardcore in there too, all accompanied by MEGA RAN’s (Raheem Jarbo) killer flow and I’m convinced this guy is going to be a crossover star. If I was Steven Speilberg, I’d use RNDM as the ready made soundtrack for ‘Ready Player One’ as its the ultimate hype music. Its fight music, if your name is Ryu and you are just about to take to the streets with your mate Ken, to face an enemy with limbs that stretch over 50 metres.
Have a listen; let me suggest ‘Infinite Lives‘ as a good starting place. You know, if you want to feel like you can punch a car until it explodes.
Its not just about party music though, there are moments where Raheem gets real and explains the current struggle of an artist in America, and sometimes just being a human being in America. All this, with the chameleon like ability to change from 90s hip-hop, to 80s hip-hop and then to 70s sounding jams with a flick of the tongue. Even though RNDM recalls the best of all these decades, it sounds so completely fresh, so 21st century, that it feels like we are listening to the future. The mix of styles, is so perfectly executed here, it almost caters to fans of every genre, regardless of musical prejudice.
