CHARLES – THAT’S HOW BABY LEARNS // L.A. DREAMPOP ON AN AWESOME TAPE!

IMG_8962 (1)

Some people apparently start revolutions from their beds. I, in times gone by, have built space station forts from pillows and duvets and imagination. Charlotte Lindèn Ercoli Coe aka Charles has created an awesome album of considerable dream-pop classics that not only perfectly suit our format of choice – Cassettes! In case you weren’t listening – but feels like it was made for it. Now I’m not saying producing ‘That’s What Baby Learns’ from the comfort of some wood and linen is any more of an achievement than my pillow space fort, but it’s probably a lot easier to drop into everyday conversation.

As you have become accustomed, and before I wax on about this gem of an album, have a little listen and come back when you’re convinced:

Effing great huh? It’s the kind of album I can sit back and close my eyes and let it wash over me with it’s dreamy layered super pop. It also feels like reading someone’s diary (specifically Charlotte’s!)  but a diary written with Ariel Pink stationery (why isnt there Ariel Pink stationery?). It’s getting some good hype at the moment and you can read one such review over at Gorilla vs Bear.

Charlotte is playing with POST/POP favourite, Neon Indian on Feb 24th (tomorrow, day of release!) so if you are in Hollywood and have a ticket to the show, you can buy this tape from the lady herself, or from POST/POP using any of the links that points to “SHOP” on this site.

I can’t recommend CHARLES enough, but I am incredibly biased as I am trying to get you to listen/buy so don’t tale my word for it, check her out in these other places too and make your own mind up!

ISLAND FOX // DOUBLE-A SIDE TAPE – TECTONIC // THINGS I’VE SEEN – APRIL 12TH

As I am writing this, Jess Bartlet aka Island Fox (aka the singer from TREASURESEASON) is painstakingly illustrating each of her just-to-be-released cassette tape, with her fox logo. Yes, it’s just a square and 3 triangles, but its alot more difficult than you think when you have me (Jed) blasting 90s dance hits in the office. Here are some photos with the song we were listening to while it happened. Y’know, so you can roleplay? She has one of the best voices around right now and you have probably heard her on other artist’s tracks adding her skills to dream-pop masterpieces left, right and centre. Her own release is a Double A-Side featuring “Tectonic” and “Things I’ve Seen”, both produced by Benjamin Abbott.

JUDE. // THE BEDROOM EP – OUT FEB 14TH!

Recently I made a mental note to make an effort to release more music from UK bands. It wasn’t that I was neglecting the UK, I just thought I could do more to promote bands locally. “You can’t start a scene if you spread yourself too thin, Jed” I said to myself in the mirror. I had the best damn intentions, but then I heard JUDE and though they had American affectations to their accents I crossed my fingers that they weren’t from New York. I wanted this band to be from Scunthorpe. “Florida” I noted to myself, nodding slowly. “Close enough”.

PEPA KNIGHT: DOUBLE A-SIDE CASSINGLE! “RAHH!” & “CLAMS” OUT JULY 16TH

“Rahh!” is the best song I have heard in 2014. I think that’s a good place to start this. We are halfway through the year and I’ve already heard my song of the summer, nay, the year and it’s all kinds of gorgeous. PEPA KNIGHT, he of Jinja Safari, hails from Sydney, Australia but sounds like he is from another planet, deciding to visit us here on the shiny bluey-greeny thing to bestow the intergalactic gift of POP.

It’s difficult to explain how much I love this song without hearing it first. Click on that link above the article and within seconds you’ll know what I’m talking about. See? I listen to music most of my waking day (not to mention the dream hours I put in) and go all out to try to find the best songs for my radio show and I can firmly say that, this beats all of them. If I was that way inclined, I’d make this my ringtone, and send texts to everyone in my contacts saying “call now, I’m in trouble, they’ve got my….” JUST to hear “Rahh” once again (and also to test my friends and family – which is an ongoing experiment and the results are inconclusive).

So you’ve made friends with your ears, how about giving your eyes a chance?

and you can listen to “CLAMS” here too. It sounds like the euphoric moment before your childhood spaceship crashes into the Okavango Delta and spills out all the harmonies in the world into the endorheic basin of the Kalahari. It’s currently on rotation on Australia’s Triple J so if you are anywhere else in the world, this is for you!

POST/POP is releasing “Rahh” and “Clams” as a double A-side cassingle on July 16th, which is not only the day that Elvis died, but also an ex-girlfriend’s birthday so I am trying to replace bad memories with good ones. Here is the artwork and its every shade of lovely.
