POST/POP Essentials // “Adventures In Home Taping 3″ - 22 Brand New Bands

IMG_1363

I think all of POST/POP‘s releases are important. I only release the bands I truly love. Bands I’ve either just discovered and its love at first sight, or bands I’ve loved for ages, but only worked up the courage to ask them the big question. Yes, it’s got easier over these last two years. Bands rarely say “No” anymore, in fact they seek me out, but it was very daunting at the start. One of the first things I did was document where cassette culture was in 2014. That my friends was the very first “Adventures in Home Taping” and its as eclectic as it is long. I followed that up on 2015 with “Adventures in Home Taping 2″ which was a snapshot of cassette culture as it started to show green shoots into the mainstream. It had a lot more chorus and a little less noise.

THIS is the third Cassette in the POST/POP X r/cassetteculture compilation “Adventures in Home Taping” and its the best yet. I’ve found 22 new bands who all frequent r/cassetteculture and who all have a die-hard passion for all things cassette. This is currently the only true snapshop of the real cassette culture that has emerged from garages and underground gigs across the world. This represents a broad cross-section of bands/genres/styles from as far afield as Phillipines all the way to the sunny closed down mines shores of Sheffield.

Have a listen below. Some of it is genius, some of it is incredible and some of it, in a certain light, is pure insanity.

SIDE A
Casper Heyzeus - A Family Day Out At Burger King
Phillinois - I Will Live Long Enough To Procrastinate (If It’s The Last Thing I Do)
Pasty Cline - Misery
Ourselves the Elves - Baby I Love You So
Augie Marchese - Medicine Man
Maven CX - No Directions To Spacetown
Plastic Indians - Little Sock Monkey
Nicotine Nerves - Nervous
findmeasubmarine - Songs 4 The Dead
Super Borgboy - Escape from the Western Tower
Floral Reef - Helsinki 5 a.m

SIDE B
Summer of Blood - Mine All Mine
Tremolo Ghosts - No Drinking
Eat Then Run - Candi Loafer
Grawlix - Top of the World
Neztok - My Ghost
Tapes & Tubes - Boy Meets World
Aeroplane Spider Death - Never Eat Wedded Sheets
Gimmik - Violet Skye
The Nosuns - Mr Choi
Simon Cameron Fletcher - Remember
Sentiments - Jwiz

This compilation feels important because it IS important. That’s why I am making the first two compilations available to download for absolutely free. Just click on the shop link at the top and you can find them!

Thanks to all the bands who are on this tape. Without you POST/POP is just another tape label. With you, it’s the best. I know I’m biased but I’m also right.

CHARLES - THAT’S HOW BABY LEARNS // L.A. DREAMPOP ON AN AWESOME TAPE!

IMG_8962 (1)

Some people apparently start revolutions from their beds. I, in times gone by, have built space station forts from pillows and duvets and imagination. Charlotte Lindèn Ercoli Coe aka Charles has created an awesome album of considerable dream-pop classics that not only perfectly suit our format of choice - Cassettes! In case you weren’t listening - but feels like it was made for it. Now I’m not saying producing ‘That’s What Baby Learns’ from the comfort of some wood and linen is any more of an achievement than my pillow space fort, but it’s probably a lot easier to drop into everyday conversation.

As you have become accustomed, and before I wax on about this gem of an album, have a little listen and come back when you’re convinced:

Effing great huh? It’s the kind of album I can sit back and close my eyes and let it wash over me with it’s dreamy layered super pop. It also feels like reading someone’s diary (specifically Charlotte’s!) but a diary written with Ariel Pink stationery (why isnt there Ariel Pink stationery?). It’s getting some good hype at the moment and you can read one such review over at Gorilla vs Bear.

Charlotte is playing with POST/POP favourite, Neon Indian on Feb 24th (tomorrow, day of release!) so if you are in Hollywood and have a ticket to the show, you can buy this tape from the lady herself, or from POST/POP using any of the links that points to “SHOP” on this site.

I can’t recommend CHARLES enough, but I am incredibly biased as I am trying to get you to listen/buy so don’t tale my word for it, check her out in these other places too and make your own mind up!

MODEL VILLAGE // HEALING CENTRE - LTD EDITION TAPE OUT TODAY!

modelvillagepostpop2

I want to go on record that ‘Healing Centre’ is the best MODEL VILLAGE album there is. You see, I thought the last one was the best, but turns out this one is. If I say this about their next album, please remind of this paragraph so I can reign in my adoration for a band with the specific skill of wrangling every inch of pop from a chorus, until there is nothing left but heartfelt verses of heartbreak and the administration of a family owned business.

God I love this album, but I want to point you first toward Track 5, also known in certain circles as ‘Time To Share’ (I’ve helpfully put the whole album to stream below). Have a listen now…

DAPHNE & CELESTE // YOU AND I ALONE - 24.7.2015

Jed, have you heard the new Daphne & Celeste song? You’d love it!” said Dave Cronen, manager of ASH/Johnny Marr. I hadn’t at the time, but went home that night and watched the video. “Woah! Max Tundra produced this? Woah! Daphne & Celeste can really sing! Woah, there’s a Twin Peaks reference? Woah! its all about cassette tapes?” Yes Dave, I LOVE IT! So then I set about speaking to Mr. Tundra about releasing the cassette and this is it below!

HELEN LOVE // YOU CAN’T BEAT A BOY WHO LOVES THE RAMONES - Released 24/07/2015

helenlovetapes1

There are so many reasons why I love this band. First of all just look at the photo below. Any band who actually got to hang out with Joey Ramone is okay in my book, but look, one of them is wearing a classic ASH tshirt, which makes this quite possibly, the greatest photo of all time.

San Cisco // Gracetown - Ltd Edition Cassette drops July 6th!

EDIT: (The band’s lot of tapes were sold out in a couple of hours today, so these are the only ones left on the planet! BUY NOW)

I’ve had some really good luck with discovering Australian bands. First up was the incomparably awesome PEPA KNIGHT, and since then, I have been on the lookout for another group of beautiful misfits from the furthest place away I can think of. Step forward San Cisco and the gloriously indie-pop ‘Gracetown’ album. Man, these guys know exactly what a chorus is, and make sure we don’t forget it. Incredibly radio-friendly Vampire Weekend-esque pop with bigger hooks than Candyman working part-time at a fishing shop; San Cisco are like a tonic to my tired ears. I’ve also just realised that I am totally projecting this band as a slightly older version of PUGWALL :) “Morning to Midnight…. cha cha cha”

HETTIE was the first artist I released a tape for through POST/POP and it’s all been heading towards this release. HETTIE wrong The NEVERLOVE ep to capture the essence of what its like to be a teenage girl in 2015, the highs and lows, the beautiful and the ridiculous, but most of all the hope for the future.

ISLAND FOX // DOUBLE-A SIDE TAPE - TECTONIC // THINGS I’VE SEEN - APRIL 12TH

As I am writing this, Jess Bartlet aka Island Fox (aka the singer from TREASURESEASON) is painstakingly illustrating each of her just-to-be-released cassette tape, with her fox logo. Yes, it’s just a square and 3 triangles, but its alot more difficult than you think when you have me (Jed) blasting 90s dance hits in the office. Here are some photos with the song we were listening to while it happened. Y’know, so you can roleplay? She has one of the best voices around right now and you have probably heard her on other artist’s tracks adding her skills to dream-pop masterpieces left, right and centre. Her own release is a Double A-Side featuring “Tectonic” and “Things I’ve Seen”, both produced by Benjamin Abbott.
