You don’t need me to tell you who The Prodigy are, or why you should buy this tape, as if you like either of these things you will have already pre-ordered it. Instead I will tell you a story.

EDIT: (The band’s lot of tapes were sold out in a couple of hours today, so these are the only ones left on the planet! BUY NOW)
I’ve had some really good luck with discovering Australian bands. First up was the incomparably awesome PEPA KNIGHT, and since then, I have been on the lookout for another group of beautiful misfits from the furthest place away I can think of. Step forward San Cisco and the gloriously indie-pop ‘Gracetown’ album. Man, these guys know exactly what a chorus is, and make sure we don’t forget it. Incredibly radio-friendly Vampire Weekend-esque pop with bigger hooks than Candyman working part-time at a fishing shop; San Cisco are like a tonic to my tired ears. I’ve also just realised that I am totally projecting this band as a slightly older version of PUGWALL

HETTIE was the first artist I released a tape for through POST/POP and it’s all been heading towards this release. HETTIE wrong The NEVERLOVE ep to capture the essence of what its like to be a teenage girl in 2015, the highs and lows, the beautiful and the ridiculous, but most of all the hope for the future.
What I have in my hand right now is a plastic rectangle. Inside this plastic rectangle is magnetic tape. Recorded onto that tape is an EP of music so genuine, it should come with a certificate of authenticity. The fact I can hold the “A Second to Think” EP from New York duo NESS in my hand, is somewhat akin to that of Thor, grasping Mjolnir. The humble cassette tape is almost as mythical as a Marvel’s favourite deus ex machina, and by all contemporary thinking, shouldnt really exist. Not anymore anyway. Yet here I am, In the summer of 2015, holding this ness cassette tape aloft, watching the light bounce off the transparent shell and make patterns on the carpet that shouldnt exist pass the mid-90s. But it does. One of the best new bands in the world (in my opinion), can only sound better when played on this format. I’m fantastically biased of course, but buy the tape and prove me wrong!
The last time POST/POP had a Model Village release (2014’s “You Chose These Woes”) it ended up being one of the sounding tapes we have ever done. Chocablok full of incredible pop songs that showed no sign of relenting, so it was a shame we had to wait this long for some new tracks.
While the band are busy touring and preparing the new album (out in the Autumn and recorded metres away from the POST/POP office!) they managed to drop this EP. It’s called “Burger Party” and I can only assume it’s because thats an awesome name for an EP. Here is the official blurb:
Self-reliant sophistipop sextet Model Village return for 2015 with “Burger Party” - a 3-track EP of songs about family, pets, and unwarranted reunions.
Due to popular demand, and the completist nature of ASH fans, we decided to do a couple of new colourways for the “Cocoon” cassette. Previously you had “Guacamole” Green, and now it’s being followed up by “Sick Party” Yellow as you can see in the photo above.
The “Sick Party” Yellow tape is exclusive to POST/POP but if that isn’t enough excitement for you, there is also a “Petrol” Blue colourway on Ash-Official.Com too. See it below!
Both of these tapes are limited to 50 each, so don’t tell us that you haven’t been warned! Both tapes will be available from 9am tomorrow.
Here are the links which will be active tomorrow!
As I am writing this, Jess Bartlet aka Island Fox (aka the singer from TREASURESEASON) is painstakingly illustrating each of her just-to-be-released cassette tape, with her fox logo. Yes, it’s just a square and 3 triangles, but its alot more difficult than you think when you have me (Jed) blasting 90s dance hits in the office. Here are some photos with the song we were listening to while it happened. Y’know, so you can roleplay? She has one of the best voices around right now and you have probably heard her on other artist’s tracks adding her skills to dream-pop masterpieces left, right and centre. Her own release is a Double A-Side featuring “Tectonic” and “Things I’ve Seen”, both produced by Benjamin Abbott.
One of the main reasons of owning a record label is to release the music you absolutely love. The music that makes you feel like you can take on the world and win. The music that when you listen, the universe stops and waits patiently until you say its okay to move again. For many of us, that is ASH in a nutshell. The quintessential UK band that does that rare thing of simultaneously lifting you out of the dolldrums, and at the same time being the soundtrack to your heart breaking into a million tiny pieces. It’s all good though. ASH are the one constant in my musical collection over the years, and I hope for many to come.

You don’t need me to tell you about The Subways, they are one of the most consistent British bands in a decade, producing album after album of sincere rock, while remembering the all important mantra that Choruses Are Important. I love them and incredibly happy to be releasing the cassette version of their self-titled album. You can buy this digitally and on CD & vinyl through the bloody great record label Cooking Vinyl.

I have always been a fan of the Independent Label Market and this year I get to be there with POST/POP! It’s the place where the best labels around present exclusive records to the music appreciating demographic in celebration of just how bloody brilliant music is! So it hit me… what can POST/POP bring to this already amazing event? What do we do best? No, not name every actor in Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3: Dream Warriors, as that’s not needed right now… YES! TAPES!
So at this year’s Independent Label Market @ Spitalfields on March 28th, POST/POP will be showcasing exclusive cassette tapes from two of my favourite bands.
ASH & THE SUBWAYS!
